Who sings in the CBSC?
The CBSC is made up of around 200 amateur singers from all walks of life.

Where and when are rehearsals held?
Rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening from 6.45-9.15pm at CBSO Centre, Berkley Street, Birmingham, B1 2LF

What is the commitment?
The Chorus gives up to twenty-five concerts per year but members don't have to perform in every concert, as we appreciate that they also have work and family commitments. We ask that members attend a minimum of 75% of rehearsals for each concert and overall during the season.

How do I join?
Membership is by audition.

Can I observe a rehearsal before auditioning?
If you would like like to join CBSC but are unsure of what it entails, why not come along to the CBSO Centre to see what it is all about. Prospective new members are very welcome to try out a rehearsal before auditioning. These open rehearsals are held at various times throughout the year for anyone who might be interested in joining the Chorus.

When is the next open rehearsal?
At the present time there are no open rehearsals planned. Please contact Mike Flower at mflower@cbso.co.uk or 0121 616 6509 for further information.

When are the next audition dates?
At the present time, there are no audition dates set.

What do I have to do in an audition?
Auditions last approximately 10 - 15 minutes, and you will be asked to sing a prepared solo piece - it could be any song, or a solo from an oratorio. You can sing this from the copy or from memory, but if you do need to use the music, remember to bring another copy for the accompanist to use. All candidates are asked to sing with the official accompanist who will be an experienced member of our team who can help you through the audition. You will also be required to do some sight-reading, a few aural tests and some vocal exercises to help establish your range.

A warm up room is provided where you can spend a few minutes before your audition warming up your voice.

What does membership cost?
Nothing; membership of the Chorus is free!

Do I need to be able to read music?
Yes. As we have a limited amount of rehearsal time for each project, it is necessary for all Chorus members to have some knowledge of reading music.
