As the 2009/10 season draws to a close and the orchestra takes a break, we look back at some of the highlights of the season podcasts, including our exclusive interviews with trumpeter Hugh Masekela, conductors Valery Gergiev, Sir Simon Rattle, Edward Gardner and Michael Seal, violinist Janine Jansen and film composer David Arnold.

Competition

Congratulations to Rod Seivewright who won last month's competition. We asked you which of Wagner's operas Andris Nelsons conducted at Symphony Hall in June and the answer was Lohengrin. Mr Seivewright wins tickets to see Nelsons and the CBSO play Dvorák's New World Symphony in Birmingham on 28 July.

This month you can win tickets to see Edward Gardner's return to Birmingham and the CBSO on 28 September - a fascinating concert featuring the rich and colourful music of Rachmaninov and Lutoslawski, including both composers' variations on a theme by Paganini. Just answer this question correctly:

Many composers have written variations on that Paganini Theme famously used by Rachmaninov and Lutoslawski. But who wrote a version for his brother to play on cello, backed by a jazz/rock band, which was also used as the theme for the South Bank Show TV series?

Was it (a) Karl Jenkins, (b) Andrew Lloyd Webber or (c) David Bedford?

Send you answer by email to podcast@cbso.co.uk and please mark it 'competition'. We'll announce the winner in the next podcast.
