This Month
The new season is nearly upon us so this month’s podcast takes the opportunity to look ahead to the 2008/9 season, Andris Nelsons’s first as CBSO Music Director. Chief Executive Stephen Maddock gives us an overview of the whole season and reveals how he works with performers, conductors, promoters and venues to create each season – like a piecing together a complicated but extremely pleasurable jigsaw. And in his Talking Programme Notes, Stephen Johnson looks at the works in the opening concert of the season - Wagner’s Rienzi Overture, Bartok’s The Miraculous Mandarin and Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz.
Competition
This month we have a pair of tickets to be won for the opening concert of the season on 17th September, conducted by Andris Nelsons. It’s going to be a very special occasion so for a chance to be there for free, all you have to do is answer this question:
Andris Nelsons started his career as a member of the Latvian National Opera Orchestra, but which instrument did he play?
Send your answer to podcast@cbso.co.uk and the winner will be picked at random at the beginning of September. Good luck!
