Rachmaninov: Elegiac Trio No. 1 13'
Schumann: Piano Quartet in E flat, Op.47 25'
True romance. Years before his famous piano concertos, the young Rachmaninov stretched his wings with a short, dark and surprisingly passionate piano trio. Robert Schumann, meanwhile, threw caution to the winds and wrote straight from the heart. Composed under the dual intoxication of his love for his new wife Clara, and his admiration for the quartets of Beethoven, his only piano quartet is a breathless outpouring of energy, enthusiasm and pure, heart-on-sleeve emotion. Hear it and fall in love.
