Copland: Sextet 25'
Dohnányi: Sextet in C 30'

Six CBSO players play two "private passions" - but when you hear these two rarely-played sextets, you'll understand why musicians love them so much. Aaron Copland's began life in the early 1930s as a symphony, and it's got all the freshness, optimism and melody you'd expect from the composer of "Appalachian Spring" and "Rodeo". Dohnanyi was a friend of both Mahler and Bartók, and while there are dashes of both in his Sextet, it's all drenched in his spicy trademark blend of big-hearted romanticism and wicked humour. Wonderful music; come and discover it with us!
