The Leo Quartet

Rachmaninov: Two Movements for String Quartet 10'
Beethoven: Quartet in C Op.59/3 (Razumovsky) 40'

Beethoven's tremendous Op.59 quartets may have re-defined the string quartet form for the Romantic era. But the Master knew how to keep his patrons happy - and since Count Razumovsky was a Russian diplomat, he made sure to slip a traditional Russian melody in amidst the epic musical dramas of his Quartet Op.59 No.3. No need for folktunes in Rachmaninov's early string quartet; every note of these two haunting miniatures simply oozes with Russian soul.
