Igor Stravinsky was a creative giant by anyone’s standards. In an extraordinary career which spanned the first three quarters of the twentieth century, he composed masterpieces in every genre, collaborated with the greatest choreographers, poets, designers and musicians of his day, left an outstanding recorded legacy, and has continued to inspire almost every other composer since his first, magnificent ballet The Firebird burst onto the scene in 1910.
Last summer, Birmingham's world-renowned arts organisations embarked on a unique project - to perform Stravinsky's complete works over four years. This year's offerings include performances by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Pokrovsky Ensemble, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and the CBSO Youth Orchestra, working with leading artists such as Sakari Oramo, Krill Gerstein, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Katia and Marielle Labèque and Benjamin Frith.
So whether you are new to Stravinsky, or already a committed fan, join us in Birmingham for an exhilarating journey through some of the twentieth century’s most amazing music.
