Alexandra Tomkinson

Ali joined the CBSO in 2010 and is responsible for marketing, communications and fundraising. With over 10 years experience of arts marketing, learning and fundraising, Ali is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and started her career as an intern at the CBSO. Before returning to Birmingham, she was working at Battersea Arts Centre as Participate Director, where she led BAC's pioneering learning programme, secured a Stage 1 Heritage Lottery Fund award of £2.3million for the re-development of the Grade II* listed Old Town Hall and developed a new passion for experimental theatre. Prior to that, Ali spent three years at Arts Council England, London as Senior Officer, Public Engagement with responsibility for building audience intelligence in the region; developing partnerships with regional broadcasters, development agencies and local authorities; and advising arts organisations on marketing and audience development strategies. She was a Churchill Fellow in 2002, visiting a range of music organisations across the US, Australia and New Zealand, and has also worked at Wiltshire Music Centre, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the National Children's Wind Orchestra.
