A talented stage and screen actor, Jason, is possibly best know for his portrayal of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry potter series’ has a distinguished career that includes appearances in The Patriot, Black Hawk Down, Green Zone and Peter Pan. He will join Mark, the UK’s best known and most authoritative film critic, as he celebrates his special year on stage as part of a four concert tour this summer*. Audiences will have the chance to get a rare and personal insight into this talented actor’s life and career as he shares tales and anecdotes on stage with Mark whilst hearing some of the music from the films in which he has appeared.

Academy Award-winning actor, Jeremy Irons is to appear with Mark Kermode in his 50th birthday celebratory concert alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on 9 July at Symphony Hall Birmingham.

One of Britain’s most extraordinary talents, Irons is well-known for his starring roles in films such as Reversal of Fortune, The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Mission, Dead Ringers and Damage alongside appearances in Die Hard: With a Vengeance and as the unforgettable voice of Scar in Disney’s classic, The Lion King. He will join Mark, the UK’s best known and most authoritative film critic, as he celebrates his special year on stage as part of a four concert tour this summer*. Academy and BAFTA award-winning actor Jim Broadbent is to appear with Mark Kermode in his 50th birthday celebratory concert alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on the opening night of Cheltenham Music Festival on 3 July.

One of Britain’s most brilliant performers, Jim is well-known for his appearances in films such as Harry Potter, Bridget Jones’ Diary and Iris. He will join Mark, the UK’s best known and most authorative film critic, as he celebrates his special year on stage in Cheltenham’s Town Hall as part of a four concert tour this summer*.

Audiences will have the chance to get a rare and personal insight into this talented actor’s life and career as he shares tales and anecdotes on stage with Mark whilst hearing some of the music from the films in which he has performed. Music from Jim’s films will include the soundtrack from Mike Leigh’s musical drama, Topsy-Turvy alongside epic tunes from The Chronicles of Narnia and Indiana Jones/Crystal Skull. These will be joined by Thomas Newman’s emotionally charged soundtrack from The Iron Lady and, as you would expect, music from the blockbuster film franchise, Harry Potter.

Britain's favourite film critic celebrates his 50th birthday with a full orchestra and some surprise guests

Mark KermodeThe UK’s best known and most authorative film critic, Mark Kermode, is to celebrate his 50th birthday with a top UK orchestra as they perform music from the films that have inspired him. From The Exorcist to Mary Poppins expect a riot of music, plus stories from his life and career, in concerts across the UK.

This summer, Mark, the co-host of BBC Radio 5 Live's Kermode and Mayo's Film Review, is teaming up with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at Cheltenham Festival (3 July); Barbican, London (6 July) The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester (8 July) and Symphony Hall, Birmingham (9 July) to celebrate a life spent in the movie theatre and how particular films have affected him so deeply.

All the music will be conducted by maestro Robert Ziegler, who has a worldwide reputation as a conductor of film music. Also joining Kermode will be Jeremy Irons (Birmingham) and Jim Broadbent (Cheltenham) plus further surprise guests who will talk about their own career in the movies, and discuss the film music which has inspired them – a selection of which will be played live by the orchestra.
